Old. Barn. Door.
Weathered, but strong
filling the void - seven by four
Old. Barn. Door.
With just a glance, your outline calls,
Beckons me to connect, with your storied 'lore
Splinters and cracks, like lines on a face
Showing character,
Giving strength to structure and place
You let no one in,
protecting yourself with metal hinges
but,
I have the key,
unafraid to approach your hulking structure
All I see is quaint charm,
all around I hear voices echoing from the past,
playing hide and go seek,
hiding in the rafters,
ducking and goosing
A first kiss behind your pilings
Young lovers lay on the bales of hay, holding hands
Moonlight peeks in through the broken roof
Old. Barn Door.
You guard this place, with so much history,
Generations move through,
singing the same songs,
Enjoying firsts,
shedding tears for lasts
Heartache,
Heartbreak,
Hearts-aflutter
White light shines in though your door,
a hand reaches out
Come with me,
I'll always lead the way,
I'll always follow you
Old.
Barn.
Door.
You divide the present and past,
Allowing us to see into the dark,
out to the light
Only some see your purpose,
Only some cross your threshold without fear
When light and dark collide,
I hope to stand beneath your precipice.
